If rock 'n' roll is a crime... Furnaceface are, in my honest opinion, the best band in Ottawa today. If you were to hear them, you might forgive us for Alanis Morrisette. They are punks by nature who are not afraid of funk but make fun of metal. They have a lot of fun but are not afraid to be serious in their songs. They can address social issues without belting you over the head with them. If they follow trends, it's just to mock them behind their backs. They are not rock stars; they just play them on TV. They have released five albums and several singles since they started in 1989, and have built up a fanbase in Canada from their rigorous touring (which would be more intensive if it wasn't for their day jobs). If you're a fan of the band or just curious, have a look.

FURNACEFACE NEWS, 2003 12 00:
THE WORLD HAS JUST GOTTEN A LITTLE SLO'ER

Slo' Tom and Christina Stewart are happy to announce the birth of their first child, John, on October 19th, 2003. Congratulations and best wishes to the three of them. Will little John turn up in a Furnaceface (or Manpower) video in the future like Dave Dudley's daughter once did? Let's see.

Furnaceface are not dead--they've just swollen a bit. Blake Jacobs, lead guitarist with Peterborough's now-defunct kings of fun metal, Hot Piss, is now officially the second guitarist of the band. The newly-expanded 'face are currently writing songs which will turn up at some point, because hey, you can't keep good songs down, can you? Until Pat can extricate himself from his work on movies long enough to rock some more, Tom, Dave and Blake are playing occasional gigs as Manpower. Tom also has 30 songs written for a planned new Slo' Tom and the Horseshit Heroes album (some of which he played on a 2003 CBC Radio session); get ready to buy a couple of rounds. Oh, yeah, and you should check out Greenfield Main's CD Hunting Tips for Everyone. Not only is it a damn good slice of conceptual country music, but Slo' Tom wrote and sings lead on their song "Great Small Game Rifles." If you're interested, you can buy it from Tunevault (if you can't find it in your local stores).

THE FEEDBACK SECTION

E-mail the band: Prompt replies aren't guaranteed (Dave Dudley gets this stuff, and he's a family man with a day job, so...), but they're happy to hear from you if you wish to write 'em.
